How Advanced Search Can Help

Advanced Search sounds more difficult, but really it just means more options. Here are some of the most useful features of Advanced Search that can all save you time. Most of these options an also be applied from your result list. 

  1. Search Multiple Concepts
    It's very common to have more than one concept in an academic search. For instance, if your topic was 

    What is the effect of “digital literacy” on academic writing?, you have two main concepts, digital literacy and academic writing. Using separate search boxes for each concept helps the database give you more relevant results. By default it shows 3 boxes for different concepts, but you can add more with the plus sign to the right of the search box if needed. 

  2. Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals
    If your assignment requires that you use academic, scholarly or peer reviewed articles, this option is the only easy to get them.

  3. References Available
    Get articles with sources used list.

  4. Published Date
    If your assignment requires that you use articles in a date range, such as nothing over 5 years old, this is an easy way to do it. 

  5. Language
    Restrict to preferred language.
